Moment by Moment Photography bio picture

Welcome

Thank you so much for volunteering to provide your talent to the families that request Moment by Moment portrait sessions.   The goal of this blog is to provide a place to share ideas, ask questions and get feedback from each of you.  In the posts you may also be hearing from a few other individuals that provide a termendous amount of support to the day to day functioning of Moment by Moment.  As you know, no one takes a salary working with Moment by Moment, we are all volunteers.  I want to introduce you to a few of these people that understand our goals and day to day work help us achieve them.

Commonly asked questions…

There are a few questions that have been asked more than once and I wanted to answer them here.  Of course, I will always take questions and often ask for feedback from each of you as the foundation only continues to grow and establish it’s reputation through all of us.

Moment by Moment has been a 501(c)3 non profit since August, 2005.  I established MbyM after I photographed  a very good friend’s child that ended up passing away.  I started the concept with Children’s Hospital Oakland and as the requests spread, I went to the local PPA meetings to present MbyM and ask photographers to participate.  I have made presentations about MbyM  to the Child Life and Social Services departments at all of the California Children’s Hospitals (with the exception of Cottage in Santa Barbara which is pending).  I had worked for twelve years in Pharma/Biotech prior to starting my own studio 8 years ago which helped in understanding the workings of the hospitals…It is my goal to have a good relationship with these hospitals and in order to continue this, I know that MbyM will remain California based…Statistics say that there are, at any given time, approximately 11,000 children in CA diagnosed with a potential life limiting illness so know we have plenty of work to do here.

In the past, I had photographers send CDs to me, I produced the prints, boxed the images and priority mailed them to the families.  As time has gone on and the economy has shifted and we have grown to serve Southern CA as well, it became harder to raise the funds necessary to pay for the printing/boxes/shipping through MbyM…this is why I have asked the photographers do do the production on your end.  I wish we had the resources to pay for production, I am working to pursue print discounts.  Currently, Bay Photo will print MbyM prints at .11 cents per.  I have been asked, why include prints, a lot of the families do not have computers to view the CD or means to produce the prints…with these considerations the hospital staff’s request that we include 4×6 prints with the CD.

If you have more questions about the foundation, please do not hesitate to ask, most truly,  Karen
